Totoro's movie: Amphetamine ( 2010 - HONG KONG

SYNOPSIS :

Scud's third foray AMPHETAMINE is a brash, self-indulgent, homosexually charged film - but then no one was expecting it to be anything else.

The story details the impassioned affair between openly gay banker, Daniel (Thomas Price) and the closeted, drug-addled lifeguard Kafka (Byron Pang). The young men fall in love, believing that their love can bridge anything, despite their difference in sexuality and Kafka's drug-taking. Daniel does not regret his love for Kafka, who tries to love him back against his nature. But a flashback memory from Kafka's past makes it difficult for their relationship to work. It turns out that their addiction to love proves more fatal than the drugs they use to explore the boundaries of their friendship.

The film stars Hong Kong Chinese actor and former model Byron Pang (Cantonese: Pang Koon-Kei) and Thomas Price, a half Chinese/half British actor who appeared in Permanent Residence and City Without Baseball. Like Scud's previous films, Permanent Residence (made in 2009) and the earlier City Without Baseball (2008), AMPHETAMINE features full-frontal male nudity in many scenes, in among others, an outdoor fight scene in which Pang is stripped naked by other boys, gym showers, and a leap from a public building, in which Pang wears 'wings', and his whole body is covered in calligraphy and silver paint.

AMPHETAMINE is filmed beautifully and boasts some breathtaking vistas of Hong Kong harbour from various picturesque locales. The film has examined the limit of passion, and is the second of a trilogy: the first, called Permanent Residence, examines the limit of life, while the third, known as Life of an Artist, examines the limits of art. Amphetamine was screened at the Berlin International Film Festival on 15 February, 2010, and was also shown at the Hong Kong International Film Festival as the closing film. The third film has not yet been released.

Đạo diễn gốc Hong Kong là ông Scud đã gây không khí nóng bỏng tại đại hội điện ảnh Berlin Film Festival ở Đức quốc khi ông giới thiệu một phần trong cuốn phim mới của ông có liên hệ đến đồng tính luyến ái mang tựa đề Amphetamine. Amphetamine ngoài cách ghép I, am, he, mine như ở trailer, thì theo tiếng Trung hoa thì loại thuốc amphetamine còn có một nghĩa khác: phải chăng đây là số phận? Cuốn phim này mô tả cuộc đời của Kafka, người làm 2 công việc để có thể có đủ tiền phụng dưỡng người mẹ bị bệnh sau khi cha của anh tự sát vào lúc anh còn là một đứa trẻ. Một ngày nọ, sau khi dứt tình với một người bạn gái tên May, anh đã gặp một quản đốc tài chánh trẻ tuổi tên là Daniel, người vừa từ Úc Đại Lợi di chuyển đến Hong Kong để tìm cách vực đậy nghiệp vụ của mình sau vụ khủng hoảng tài chánh thế giới vào mùa Thu năm 2008.

Nhờ sự giúp đỡ của Daniel mà Kafka đã bị khuất phục trước sự quyến rũ của ân nhân mình, và 2 người đã tự thuyết phục tình yêu của họ sẽ có thể giải quyết được những khác biệt giữa đôi bên như khuynh hướng tình dục và tình trạng nghiện ngập ma túy.

Đạo diễn Scud nói với các phóng viên Reuters ràng tình yêu là một bản thể riêng biệt bất chấp là nam hay nữ; tuy khuynh hướng tình dục khác nhau, nhưng khi một người nào đó yêu thương thực sự thì việc này đối với họ không còn quan trọng, mọi sự có thể thay đổi khi tình yêu đủ mạnh để truyền đạt thông điệp, và đó cũng là mục tiêu ông thực hiện cuốn phim này. Đạo diễn Scud nói ông muốn hiến tặng cuốn phim này cho những ai sống trong tình yêu thực sự, vì đồng tính luyến ái vẫn còn là một điều cấm kỵ ở Á châu. Khi được hỏi là ông lấy tiền đâu ra để thực hiện cuốn phim này, thì đạo diễn Scud nói ông vừa cười vừa nói rằng ông đã dùng tất cả tiền mà ông để dành trong suốt 20 năm, với hy vọng là ông sẽ được đền bù xứng đáng.
